Our Wedding

Ben and Colette’s story begins in the mountain town of Steamboat Springs, where they met in college and immediately became running buddies. It all really kicked off when Ben confidently claimed he could run a marathon. Colette, never one to pass up an opportunity for fun (or friendly sabotage), promptly signed him up. From that moment on, they became training partners—bonded by miles, mutual suffering, and a shared inability to say no to a challenge.As for when they officially started dating? Well… great question. Sometime in the fall of 2021, but the exact date remains a mystery. One day they were just running pals, the next they were planning long-distance visits across state lines. Either Ben was in Alaska and Colette in Colorado, or vice versa. Facetime basically deserves an award for keeping this relationship alive.Despite the miles, every moment they spent together was (and still is) inseparable. They’ve roamed mountains, wandered deserts, and logged countless miles—both on foot and in the air. Through it all, their love and commitment have only grown stronger, proving that whether it’s a marathon, a long-distance relationship, or just the next big adventure, they’re in it together.

While their personalities and interests may differ, they’ve always shared a love for hockey and a competitive spirit growing up. William played a big role in shaping many of Ben’s life decisions, especially in school. Whether on the ice or in everyday life, his energy and enthusiasm have always made an impact, and Ben is grateful to have him by his side.

Meet Patricia—Ben’s youngest sister, my personal role model, and the woman I’d be if I were way cooler, faster, and had a dog named Dudley who’s probably more loyal than most humans. She’s an ultra-athlete who makes running marathons look like a casual stroll, a nursing student so brilliant that I feel like I should be taking notes just being in the same room as her, and she’s armed with a zinger for every occasion. If you ever need advice on life, training for a race, or just a solid roast, Patricia’s your girl. When she’s not crushing her goals, she’s hanging out with Dudley, who’s probably more athletic than I am. Honestly, I just want to be her when I grow up—minus the running and definitely more of the snacks and snuggling with Dudley.

Ben’s third-oldest brother and closest in age, making him the ultimate childhood sidekick. Growing up, they did just about everything together, from everyday adventures to lifelong memories. Daniel has a unique ability to bring everyone’s mood up, always cracking jokes no matter the situation. Whether on the mountain or just hanging out, his humor and energy make every moment more fun. Ben couldn’t imagine this day without him by his side.

Aubrey, my closest sibling in age, is a walking, talking storm of sarcasm, wit, and pure chaos. Growing up, she was the one who made mom question all of her life choices, with a mix of rebellion and brilliance that could only come from someone with a heart of gold (and a knack for driving people nuts). Her grades might not have always reflected her smarts, but trust me, this girl’s got a creative mind that will leave you questioning the world around you. From an early age, she's proved time and time again that she can  outwit the system—and probably the rest of us, too. From her artistic genius to her sarcastic one-liners, Aubrey has been the source of endless laughter, mischief, and all the love a sibling could ask for. Mom is making me add that she's maintained a 4.0+ GPA in college and has an impressive TikTok following for her creative art and natural art kits.  Hopefully, she'll make us all a few for the wedding!

Ben’s brother-in-law and an unexpected but invaluable addition to the family. Growing up, Ben wasn’t exactly Curtis’s biggest fan—after all, he was taking away his sister, Shannon. But over the years, that initial rivalry turned into a deep appreciation. Now, Ben is grateful for the bond they’ve built and for Curtis’s constant support. As a devoted husband and father of two energetic boys, Curtis has been a great source of inspiration. Whether it’s taking an interest in Ben’s goals or always being there when needed, Curtis has become more than just family—he’s a true friend.

Shannon, Ben’s oldest sister and second oldest of six, is the unsung hero behind his success (and probably the reason he remembers to eat). As a nurse practitioner, she’s got a brain that could diagnose you from across the room, but her real talent lies in keeping Ben—and the rest of the family—on track. With two wild boys of her own, Shannon has perfected the art of juggling chaos while keeping the best head on her shoulders in the family. She’s not only incredibly smart, but she also somehow manages to be the most accomplished person in the room at all times. Seriously, if anyone knows how to keep things from totally falling apart, it’s Shannon. She's the life of the party, the calm in the storm, and the one making sure everyone’s glass is full... of fun, of course. As Ben says she is "the perfect Casey".

Ben’s childhood best friend and the closest thing to a brother he could imagine. From countless out-of-state hockey trips to late-night Call of Duty marathons fueled by way too many red Gatorades, their bond was built on unforgettable memories. Though life and their goals have taken them in different directions, their friendship has never wavered. No matter the distance, Trey has always been there, and Ben couldn’t be prouder to have him by his side on this special day.

Autum, my cousin closest in age, is basically the epitome of "got it all together." She’s one of those people who makes you wonder if she has a secret life as a superhero because, in addition to being a ridiculously talented musician, she somehow manages to be accomplished, sweet, and always on top of her game. While the rest of us are scrambling to figure out our next move, Autum is probably already halfway to the next big thing with a smile on her face. If life were a musical, she’d definitely be the lead, and the rest of us would just be in awe of her ability to make everything look effortless. She’s got the talent, the brains, and that perfect balance of sweetness that makes her impossible not to adore.

No matter the activity, Hayes brings a positive energy that’s contagious, and his drive to get outside and make the most of life is nothing short of inspiring. Ben is grateful for their friendship and all the adventures they’ve shared.

Sadie, the bride’s incredible friend, is truly one of a kind. As a middle school teacher, she’s got a brain that can handle anything from shaping young minds to cracking jokes that leave everyone in stitches. But it's not just her wit that makes her stand out—Sadie is the ultimate adventure badass. Whether she’s out on the water, making boating look effortless, or conquering the slopes like a pro, she’s always up for anything. What makes Sadie even more special, though, is the way she brings laughter and lightness wherever she goes. She’s that friend who’s always ready with a kind word, a joke, or a high-five, and you can’t help but admire her for the way she approaches life with so much joy and confidence. Sadie is the kind of friend you want by your side for the long haul, and I’m so lucky to know her.

Arches and Canyonlands.&nbsp;Hike, bike, drive…whatever floats your boat, but you do not want to miss out on these two natural beauties. (Dead Horse is AMAZING TOO, but you'll see that at the wedding!) Known for their incredible rock formations, breathtaking views, and challenging terrain. You’ll want to pack your backpack and just go. Part of the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.visitutah.com/places-to-go/most-visited-parks/the-mighty-5" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Mighty Five</a>&nbsp;National Parks in Utah, Moab is homebase for Arches, Canyonlands, and possibly Capitol Reef. And Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks are just a few hours (4-5) away.Canyonlands is a bit less developed and split into three different sections: Island In The Sky, The Maze and The Needles.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nps.gov/cany/planyourvisit/maps.htm" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">These maps</a>&nbsp;will quite literally map everything out for you 🙂<a href="https://canyonlandsbynight.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Canyonlands By Night &amp; Day</a>&nbsp;has some pretty epic adventures that you can plan for. They have been operating tours for over 50 years and can provide you with a whole lot of guidance! As they say, “Brace Yourself!” You are in for a heck of an adventure.Arches is a bit more family friendly, because you can haul your kiddos in the car and drive to different locations. They have several hikes ranging from easy to difficult in order to suit all outdoor adventurers.There are over 2,000 arches in the park. These impermanent formations are truly something special.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nps.gov/arch/learn/nature/geologicformations.htm" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Learn more</a>&nbsp;about how they are formed and how they will eventually disappear.&nbsp;Please note:&nbsp;Arches National Park is reservation only from 8:00 - 5:00. Take The Ride Of Your Lifetime–Mountain BikingMoab, Utah has some of the absolute best ever mountain biking. It’s not for the faint of heart. However, if you aren’t a pro yet, no worries! There are trails for all ages and skill sets, as well as opportunities to enhance your riding abilities.<a href="http://www.discovermoab.com/biking.htm" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Here is a list of mountain biking trails</a>&nbsp;that will tell you the distance, difficulty and type of ride.If you don’t have a mountain bike you can rent one at local bike shops here in Moab such as Poison Spider Bike Rental or Chili Pepper Bike Shop. River Rafting!Moab is famous for being one of the only cities where the Colorado River is accessible without having to go down the Grand Canyon!Colette used to give guided river tours in this area.Our favorite company for gear (and a guide if you feel you need one) is Wild West Voyages https://www.wildwestvoyages.com/tour-category/moab-colorado-river-rafting-tours.They have the gear, the guide (if needed) and the shuttles at a moments notice (which in Moab is at least the day before).If you don't have much time - 'cuz, you know, you're going to a wedding - Do the MOAB DAILY. Our favorite is Lower Onion Creek to Sandy Beach. It'll take about 3 hours, but they'll will have been some of the best hours of your life. Plus, you'll now have bragging rights for having rafted the Colorado River! IT IS OPEN ALL NIGHT, NO RESERVATION &amp; IT'S FREE! There is nothing cooler than seeing the full moon hovering in the middle of the arch. Photographers from all over come to shoot it. Get Out, Rock Out –&nbsp;<a href="http://redriveradventures.com/utah-canyoneering/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Go Canyoneering</a>Canyoneering is one of the most epic things to do in Moab.&nbsp;Canyoneering combines rock climbing, repeling, and hiking in one great experience. And many adventures are suitable to people new to the sport. You repel down the side of a canyon and then hike out of it!It’s the sport of enjoying a canyon.During canyoneering you can experience rappelling, waterfall jumping, rafting and more depending on the trip.There are great guided canyoneering trips in Moab.Chamisa Canyon and Fiery Furnace are great for newbies. (Fiery Furnance is in Arches National Park - You can book this one a week ahead of time if you don't want to take a tour. Seriously consider it!) Rock of Ages is a great canyon for the more experienced. Disc Golf At BasecampYou can’t forget about Disc Golf.Moab has one of the three most extreme disc golf courses in the world. General advice for this course is: “Don’t go left on 1 or right on 5 unless you can swim. Don’t go right on 14 unless you can fly!”This is a private course with an entry fee of $5. Their state-of-the-art dinosaur exhibits feature the dinosaurs who roamed our area and their tracks, which are found in abundance around Moab, Utah! If you ever wanted to get down with the dinosaurs, you’ll get closer than ever!If museums aren’t your thing and you’d prefer to be out in nature then&nbsp;<a href="http://www.discovermoab.com/moab_dinosaurs.htm" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">check out trails where you can find dinosaur tracks.</a>

Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC):&nbsp;The closest major airport, about 236 miles from Moab&nbsp; You can also fly to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) or Denver International Airport (DEN) and then drive to Moab.&nbsp;A BUNCH OF US ARE DRIVING - HITCH A FAMILY RIDE! Las Vegas Airport (LAS): The most INEXPENSIVE, BEST WAY to see the area and check off all of your Southwest BUCKET LIST items. You'll hit ZION on the way, go through the HOLE and end up in ARCHES in Moab. There is a $50 Grayhound bus that will take you from all the International Airports, if you don't feel like driving!
